A while ago, someone close to me, introduced me to Kids-in-mind.com. What is it?, you ask yourself. Let me tell you. It JUST might change your life! (forever)
It's a website that previews and rates movies for you. (thus the picture on the left) Every movie gets 3 ratings, from 1-10 on 1) sex and nudity 2) violence and gore and 3) profanity. Then it goes to list EVERY thing in the movie and why it was rated that way. They even go so deep as to tell you how many of every swearword there is in the movie. Ha ha!
Anyway, i used it tonight and thought i would share it with the world. (a.k.a. YOU) My, friend, and i used to use it all the time before we went to movies. While this is supposed to be used to help protect kids from bad things in movies, i feel it has use for everyone. In fact, i think things in movies affect people more than they'll ever realize. My friend and i (the one who showed me this site) used to have discussions about it all the time.
Now, using this does limit the movies you will see in the future, but it's a GOOD thing. :) it actually would always be sad at the time. We used to see previews to movies and be like, OH MY GOSH!!! i want to see that SO, BAD. So we'd hurry and look it up and realize it was rated and EIGHT in the sex!? AH! We'd both get really sad and conclude that we could not see the movie, no matter how much we wanted to. And let me tell you, there were ALOT of movies we wanted to see, but couldnt, because of the sex ratings.
Now to some people, they may think to themselves, I am an adult, and therefore can watch adult content and not be affected by it. I am not doctor or psychologist, and am just going off my own limited knowledge and experiences, but i do not believe this to be true. I've seen violent scenes and heard swear words and while they may stick with you for a little while, they eventually fade. But any time you see something sexual in a movie or on TV, it's like the image is BURNED into your retinas FOREVER! Ha ha. Ok... that may be a slight exaggeration, but, am i wrong? Dont you remember those bad scenes FAR more often than ones of violence or profanity? (Not necessarily saying that those are okay, but you get what i mean)
Anyway, what i'm getting at is, i actually think it's almost as important for us to be protecting ourselves from these things as it is for us to protect our kids (or future kids) from them.
