Divorce

This post is not meant to offend anyone, so please dont choose to be offended.

Some of my posts are things going on in my life and some are things i've been thinking about lately. This is more of, well, both i guess.

The past couple years, my friend and i have had many discussions about divorce; when it's justified and when it is not. I was alot more liberal in my reasonings and situations where it was ok than he was. And over time, we just had to agree to disagree.

But, i've changed my mind.

(I changed it a while ago, but, i've just been thinking about it more recently...) The more i learn about the gospel, and the more i've seen how much heartache divorce causes... I'm not quite as liberal as i was before with when it's ok and when it's not. I've decided that there are very few situations where it is ok, and even some of them, i believe can be worked out. (obviously, there are situations though, where your choice is taken away by things going on but i think God knows those situations and consequences will be given accordingly.)

The world and it's trends have given me so much heartache. Is it possible for two people to stay together forever? I just keep seeing situation after situation, and even friends who show that it's not possible. (possible may be the wrong word. i believe it's possible. but, one or both parites just gives up.) Things always get hard, but, can you find the one person that will never give up and ALWAYS keep trying with you, COME WHAT MAY? Will you be that person to your spouse? Will you always try to make it work? It just seems that people give up so easily... I dont think that was Heavenly Father's plan... I think he wants us to work our hardest and never give up on each other.

Ever.

And even though this trend has become so popular and commonplace in our world today, i still have hope that it is possible to be with one person, forever.

Well you are definitely right. Divorce is becoming more frequent and acceptable, at least in the worlds eyes. Marriage is tricky, it is hard and it takes a lot of patience, time and unconditional love. Unfortunately, I dont think many people realize this when they get married. Especially now, when you have TV shows implying promiscuity and love affairs and in the few examples of marriage they glamorize it having a relationship built on materials rather than on the trust and love.

Thinking about it, there are many TV shows and movies that give this sense of false hope and false realization of what life is and what it is about--having said that, this is the main source of information for a lot of people and as such, it is no wonder that there are so many people struggling right now and getting divorced after two months to a year of giving it a trial run. Anyway, marriage can work--it is possible, just as you said.
