Friday and Satruday

The adventure begins..

We met at 2pm (or were supposed to...) and ended up actually leaving Provo around 3:15, after getting some fast food on our way out.

Now, when i do road trips, i like to GET THERE. I don't like to dilly dally. I like to drive. And get something to eat/go to the bathroom/get gasoline all at the same time. It's much more effective that way, right? No one else seemed to be on the same wave length with me about this.

We stopped, soon after leaving, in Cedar City, to get something to eat, and ended up wandering around Walmart for a little bit. Needless to say, i was a little frustrated... but we eventually made it to our final destination. (FINALLY!) We got to the Grand Canyon around 2 am. (it's supposed to be a 10 hour drive, before the time change... Ha)

We wanted to start our hike right then and hike through the night (so as to miss the blazing sun. For this purpose we all brought head lamps.) But as we were putting on our packs, a native came around and told us we couldn't hike out and had to wait until 4 or 5 am to start.

BAH!

So, we all got in the car and attempted to sleep. Needless to say, that didn't go very well, Ha, and i started the 10 mile hike with a total of three 10-minute naps.

It was dark, and slightly rainy when we started, so we all pulled out our jackets and headlamps and headed out on our descent into the famous Grand Canyon.

Going down steep switchbacks with a 40 lb pack was quite the task... ha.

The picture above is the one rest stop we had. Not everyone is pictured in it. There were eighteen of us total.

It's about 2 miles down hill, then 6 flat before you get to the little Havasupai town (where you buy your permits. $75 per person! Robbery? I think so.) and THEN there's STILL two more miles to the campgrounds.

WAH.

I was DYING by the time we got to the town to pay. I think i looked miserable, cause everyone was giving me these pathetic looks. Ha ha.

But it was all worth it when i turned the corner about a mile down and saw this... (and the angels in heaven rejoiced) The water was so clear, with a bluish-green tint. This waterfall doesnt look very tall but it was about 30-40 feet. Apparently it wasn't there last year, but some how the flood created it. It's beautiful.

Continuing on, we came around the corner to this:

This is Havasu falls. The water looked like it was chlorinated. It was so beautiful. And just below it were some smaller falls that were easy to sit and play in. It was like an outside waterpark.

This is some of the guys from our group jumping off into the water. It's the give you an idea of how tall the falls are. Pretty great, huh?

After setting up camp, we lounged a little and then went up to Havasu falls and played in the water for a while. It was overcast hiking in, which was pretty lucky for the hike but we wished the sun had come out a little more when we were playing in the water. The water wasn't actually very cold, it was just windy down where we were, which makes things a chilly, espeically when all you're wearing is a swimming suit.

We spent most of the rest of the day lounging a little and exploring here and there. It was quite an adventure. :)

Finally getting to sleep that night in my hammock was, amazing.
