Jairo's family invited me on a trip to California with them. Jairo and his brother Mario had to renew their passports at the embassy in LA. So since they were going down, they thought, hey! why not go to disneyland? So they invited me.
Jairo and I had already planned to get married and scheduled the temple, but I didnt have the ring yet. I actually had even scheduled to get our engagement pictures when we got back from California and i thought, i definitely need a ring before we have pictures taken... right? He asked when i wanted to get the ring and i said, um... at Disneyland ! (cause we were planning to go ON valentines DAY) but he said he wasn't ready yet. He was saving some money up and planning something for when we got back. But i felt like maybe he was trying to throw me off so i said okay.
We left Wednesday (feb 13th) evening and planned to drive to vegas and then leave really early in the morning and get to disneyland around noon the next day. They rented a GIANT 15 passenger van... (there were 7 of us... His mom and dad, sister and her two kids) and we left around... 7pm. Needless to say, we didnt get to vegas until super late because we had to stop lots of times because of the kids... I think we got there around 1am (2am utah time). I shared a room with Zuleika (zoo-lay-kuh) and the kids in one room and jairo shared with his parents. the hotel gave us a voucher to Denny's the next morning for breakfast. we decided not to get up crazy early and go to disneyland, which i was grateful for. I was too exhausted. Plus... i like to go to disneyland right when it opens! not in the middle of the day! WHAT A WASTE! So we took our time driving. Then jairo and i went out and got ice cream and walked around downtown disney.
the next day, jairo and his dad had appointments in LA to get the passport so i just hung out with mom, sister and the kids. we walked to downtown disney and looked around and met up with jairo and his dad later in the evening. we went to eat at some pirate buffet across the street from disneyland. (it wasnt that good. don't go there...)

So we went to disneyland on saturday, feb 16th. I thought we were gonna spend the whole day with the family. But they let jairo and i go off by ourselves. they went home in the middle of the day to take a nap. jairo was really jealous and wishing that i didnt love disneyland so much... he was kinda mad we had to stay...
jairo doesnt really like rides... but i do. my favorite is splash mountain. he didnt ride with me last time we went in october because he doesnt like those kinds of rides. but he said he would come this time, because he loved me. i told him he didnt have to ride.. but he could wait in line and then when it was time to get on, just step over to the other side and i would ride alone and see him when i got off. but he insisted. but right when we sat down on the ride (and i kept saying "are you sure? you can still get off. hurry! we're about to leave...") it broke! and they told us that it would be over and hour until it was fixed and we could wait there but they wouldnt give us a ticket to but in line again.
**crushed** NOOOOooooooooooooooo!
we met up with the family (mario and alexa came mid day) around 530 at a parade at the front of disneyland. he told them how sad i was about missing splash mountain and then we went on pirates together and ate another turkey leg. i think by then it was starting to get dark so we headed over to the castle to watch the fireworks. we were right in front, a little to the right. when the fireworks were going and the disney music was blaring, i thought, "its too bad jairo isnt going to propose here. this wouldve been perfect.... "
right then, he spins me around and gets down on his knee. everyone around us gasps and his parents start taking pictures. he asked. i smiled and said yes. we watched the rest of the fireworks and tinkerbell fly over the castle and **cheese alert** i had tears streaming down my face as they sang "the dream that you wish will come true!". the fireworks were over and we all hugged and took more pictures (of which i dont have... but his parents do...). his mom cried and hugged me. and i guess three other couples got engaged at the same time, and right after everything was over, someone else proposed.
it was really nice.
then we all went and had ice cream together at the front of disneyland. (i cant remember the name of the area... where is kelsey when i need her!?)
it TURNS out that he planned to propose to me here after we went to disneyland together in october. once he saw how much i loved it, he felt it would be really special to do it here. he talked with his parents about it and they felt it was way too expensive. he said, that's okay. but then they realized they had to go to LA anyway to renew passports, so they thought they could make it work.
so they all knew he was going to propose the whole time!
anyway, it was really nice. nice and fun and something he knew i loved. i felt very special.
(to be continued...)
